Make It Safe

Safety is incredibly important to us.

By law all internal blinds which we supply or fit must comply with the child safety requirements of BS EN 13120:2009+A1:2014. These requirements have to be met whether children are present or not. Our staff are fully trained in the various ways to make blinds child safe and will be happy to advise you on the best option for your home or workplace.

Some blinds are naturally safe by design.

For example, cordless, hidden cord or tension cord systems. These blinds usually have a push, pull or twist control. Electric and motorised blinds are also child safe as they have no operating cords. Shutters and external blinds are generally child safe.

In-Built Safety Systems

Safety systems can be built in to some blinds when they are manufactured. In some cases, such as a landing window blind which requires a long reach to control, cordless blinds are not an option. Where required we can add devices to make blinds child safe.

On chain operated roller blinds we can add a breakaway link and roman blinds can have a series of links on the back of each raise and lower cord. These breakaway links are designed to break a loop or cord connection when a certain amount of pressure is applied.

Separate Safety Systems

Where necessary we will fit safety devices during installation. Also known as cord tidies these devices can be fitted to keep a cord or chain loop taught and secure to the wall. They are ideal for roller and vertical blinds.

Another option is accumulation devices or cleat hooks which can be fitted to wrap excess cord around keeping them out of a child’s reach. These options have to be fitted at a height of 1.5 metres from the floor.
